The Latest Stats

Kate had her 18-month check-up a few weeks ago. She weighs 20 pounds, 12.8 oz. (6.7%), is 31 3/4 inches tall (54.6%), and is doing great! She pretty much turned bright red and screamed the whole appointment and wanted nothing to do with the doctors and nurses. She is a very determined and strong-willed little one! The doctor said it's a good thing though and that we will appreciate it on her first date because she's not going to let anything happen that she doesn't want to happen!

Jackson just had his 5-year check-up today, and he finally made it to thirty pounds (woo hoo)! Thirty-one pounds (0.8%) to be exact, and he is 40 inches tall (5.5%). He had his hearing and vision checked also, and the doctor said everything is great! He commented that Jackson is always smiling and asked me if he's always like this. I said that he has his moments of course, but that he usually is a very happy little guy. He said they should put his picture up in the waiting room and say, "This is how you should be!" (I wonder why he didn't say that at Kate's last appointment?)

Curls!

Where did she get these curls from? Not from me! But I love them, and I had to get a picture of them in case they disappear one day. She has these beautiful curls in the back, but in the front, her hair is as straight as mine.

Jackson's Fifth Birthday

Jackson was so excited for his birthday this year! He got to celebrate at school and then again with his friends that afternoon! At school, each student drew a picture of what they would give Jackson for his birthday if they could (their pictures included sunshines, a spaceship, monkey bars, and Jesus!). The teachers made a book out of the pictures and sent it home with him. It was so sweet! We had a party for Jackson with his class after school. It was fun to have his party on his actual birthday! After his party, we continued celebrating with pizza, banana splits, and present opening at home with Mimi and Pop (who were in town for the weekend)! Here are some pictures of his fun day!
He wanted to wear his birthday hat first thing that morning! [We bought this hat for his first birthday and he has worn it every year since. It's kinda sad though because it only came with interchangeable numbers 1-5, so this is his last year to wear it (unless he wants to wear it again when he turns 12). Five seemed like so far away when we bought the hat!]

Five Years Old!

Dear Jackson,
You are 5 today! Can it really be? Has it really been 5 years ago that a little 5 1/2 pound baby boy came into this world and changed our lives forever?

You are the sweetest, funniest, smartest, most creative, cutest little 5-year-old I could have ever dreamed of calling my son. You always have such a happy demeanor and get along so well with everyone. And, I cannot imagine a better big brother than you! You are always so good to your little sister, even when she is pulling your hair, hitting you, or taking your toys! You protect her, teach her things, and always know how to make her laugh. She loves you so much!

I am amazed by the things you say and come up with everyday. You can make ice skates for a hockey game out of Tupperware containers, a microphone out of a broom stick and a train whistle, and a garbage truck out of a laundry basket and a belt. You are always so happy and a joy to be around! You love to ask questions....lots of questions...and to show us all of the new things you can do.

You can now count to 100, you're learning how to do math and to read and write, and we are so proud of you. You have always loved music...first the guitar, then drums, and of course singing. You can memorize words of a song more quickly than anybody I know, and you know what song is on the radio just by hearing one note! You are a great little entertainer - always have been! You are also an amazing impersonator. If you go to a hockey game, the next day you are a hockey player; if you go to a baseball game, you are a baseball player; if you watch a drummer play, you are a drummer; if you see a pirate on TV, you become a pirate; if you see our realtor in action, you start talking like a realtor. Not only do you pretend to be these things, but you do them remarkably well. You observe every detail (details most people would not even notice) and you take them on yourself when you become these different characters.

I cannot express how much I love you and how happy it makes me to be your mom.

Happy Birthday!

I love you forever and ever,
MOM
